Last painting for a few weeks...

"Fill Your Life With Love" written in love hearts...

well, this will be my last painting for a few weeks, I have already packed away all my paints and brushes. I wanted to finish this painting as Gifts of Creation (thank you) gave me a great idea with flowers raining from the sky attached to dotted lines - in this painting, I have the love hearts dangling off of golden chains with flowers all around.
Anyway, next week hubby and I and our two little ones are going away on holidays (for 2 weeks) and I cant wait as Melbourne has turned very bitter and cold in the last few days - I am hanging to feel the warm sun of tropical Queensland on my face!
I plan to take my laptop along with me so I will be checking in often (I cant live without my internet lol) - take care everyone and happy creating! Cheers Val

"Queen of Hearts" or "Hearts Aflutter"...?

The sides of the canvas are covered in the same pearl metallic paper with gold detail...

Hello ladies, thank you all so much for stopping by and giving me ideas regarding the background - I will take some of those suggestions and use them in my next painting - this one is hearts made out of the same pearl metallic craft paper used on the dress and headband, so it all ties in, with heaps of gold filigree texture over the pearl.

I have also darkened the background with rose colour as it was a bit pale before - I like the depth of colour I get with watercolour pencils so I may do a few more paintings in this medium - also, I love these small 20cm x 25cm x 1.7cm edge canvases, as I can finish a painting in a day and also, they are much easier to post if and when they sell.

Thank you Francien for suggesting the love hearts in the background - I think they come out nicely without taking away the focus off the main subject.
This painting is now listed on Etsy (original painting) and RedBubble for prints!

Keep up the beautiful artwork and thank you for the friendships I have found through these blogs. All the very best, Val (HUGZ TO ALL)

Ok the first installment of my new project...

...this is done on a little canvas 20cm x 25cm and (after priming) I have sketched the picture out, coloured her in with watercolour pencils and then using a very fine wet brush, I have gone over the painting merging the colours together - it has come together quite nicely even though my preferred medium is acrylic paints I like the soft effect of the watercolour pencils.

Now I am stuck (I am experiencing an artistic block???) ...I have added filigree texture on her dress and hairband in gold, so she stands out with all her decorations but I don't have a clue what to do for the background (flowers, dragonflies or maybe some paper collage words...) - maybe I should just leave the background blank, perhaps adding a bit more colour to it? What do you think - which way should I go?

I look forward to hearing your suggestions, cheers Val

Two posts in one day - thats a first...

(three drawings of Marilyn Monroe 10x20 approx.)

Hello everyone, me again - I just felt like sharing a bit tonight as I am sort of moping around, don't know why, just one of those silly moods - so out of sheer bordom I decided to go to my studio and clean up the mess in there (it was screaming for a clean for weeks). I was going through all my boxes of various supplies when I came accross all my sketch pads and pencils - these three drawings I had placed inside a brand new large sketch book and then put away - I had totally forgotten all about them (I did them maybe 8 months ago or so)...and of course, I chose famous people to draw, there are a few of Elvis as well, but he is framed so its a bit hard to take a photo of him.
These drawings were my very first attempt at sketching and shading and trying to capture facial expressions - I sketch them from photos. Since then I have done lovely portraits of my children and these are framed and hanging on their walls in their bedrooms.
So now, once again, the drawing bug is starting to bite again and I am thinking of doing a mixed media artwork with lots of watercolour pencils, doing similar drawings but with colour - I don't know where this will lead, but its a lovely surprise when something good comes of it.
Well, that's it for me for tonight, I will return when I have a new painting to post - until then, I will follow you guys and enjoy your lovely artwork! Cheers and happy creating to all, Val

New little painting "Autumn is Here"...

...well its just about winter here, actually...

I have been busy with accounting work for the last few days and finally, I have finished it (95% complete) so I can breath easy now, and I am much happier - best of all, the kiddies are back at school and I was able to paint a little painting which I started last night and just completed this afternoon.

It is a mixed media artwork using acrylic paints and paper collage (she also has little pearl like love-hearts on her dress) - 20cm x 25cm x 1.7cm edges - as I am in a happy mood (after finishing all the accounting) this feeling has spilled over into the painting which is bright and colourful and was a heap of fun to make.

I will be listing this painting on Etsy shortly - I hope you all like it - also, I hope you have all had a great weekend...cheers Val xxoo

I am so excited over my new Etsy shop...

it is up and running. Once I get a spare moment, I will list more of my artwork there (together with prints which I think I will try making myself first, and see how they turn out!)

I have just set everything up and it was so very easy - I am over the moon - GO ETSY - YAY!!!

(PS I have just realised that Etsy only deals in American Dollars - I have therefore reduced the price of all my paintings in order to compensate for any overpayment in postage!!!)

"Thoughts Aflutter" - mixed media

Good morning all - I have changed the name of this painting, I think this one works a bit better.

Just wanted to thank all the lovely people who have stopped by and left comments regarding this painting - I love reading them and they are all very appreciated.

My daughter was very happy about the comments on her horse drawing and she still has a smile on her face - she is already planning her next artwork and she is a darling.

Thank you once again, now I plan to go through all the new posts by the people I follow and enjoy some lovely paintings. Cheers all, have a great day, Val xxoo

"My Thoughs Flying" - 30cm x 30cm x 4cm

Well ladies, I really think I need to have my head examined - I have spent the day convincing myself that I should relax while the school holidays are on (kiddies go back to school on Monday) and therefore I should put the business accounting on hold until next week - so once again, another painting is done - mind you, I was only supposed to draw the design out (ONLY) on the canvas - then I told myself I will only paint the face (do all the detailed work) - and...this is where the shrink should step in... from that point on, it just snow-balled - so here we have it - another painting completed instead of GST work!!!

Mixed media again - with lots and lots of texture - I returned to my dragonflies and had to put them into this painting - lots of gold filigree texture on the dragonflies and then I have textured the whole painting (apart from the face) in little squares.

Then the final touch, heaps of gloss varnish - she is drying now.

I also had to add this drawing my little daughter Maya drew while I was painting - we were both sitting at the kitchen table, listening to music and having fun. She is nearly 7 years old and madly in love with horses - my little artist!

Good night and sweet dreams to all - I will see all your lovely work tomorrow morning, me and my trusty coffee togeher - HUGZ Val xxoo

"Imagine" mixed media 25cm x 30cm

This is my next little miss - I have just named this one "Imagine"...

...only because when I started this painting out, it looked nothing like this and this was not what I had imagined - but this is what it came out as - she has lots and lots of texture - painted using mixed media - she even has tissues over her for texture and that dreamy soft look.

I am going to put my foot down now as I really do not have time to paint for the next few days, I really need to start working on the GST for the last quarter (for all you lovely non-Australians, GST is paperwork/accounting every 3 months and it is a pain in the a**, I hate it but I must do it).

I just quickly wanted to mention that over the last week, 4 of my mixed media paintings have sold on eBay and I am so very happy about that - I will be listing this little miss later on tonight and I will post a link here once its done.

Thank you to all you lovely artists out there that have stopped by my blog in these last few weeks and left such lovely heartwarming comments - I love reading them and try to answer every single one - they are very much appreciated.

Until next time, wishing you all the best, regards Val xxoo

Hello All You Wonderful Talented Artists...

...out there in Blogger land - It has been a bit of a hectic few days for me but today I actually had quiet relaxing time to myself thanks to my Mother-in-Law who is spending a few days with us and she has been entertaining the kids all day for me (bless her kind soul) - I got to sleep in, bum around the house and paint another lovely mixed media painting (in my studio) today - I have taken photos of the painting even though the varnish is still wet, so there is lots of shine on the photos but you get the gist...this one is 30cm x 40cm on a thick edged frame.

I hope you have all had a great Easter and a safe Easter and I look forward to seeing all your wonderful work (something I love doing every morning with a coffee) - until next time, cheers Val

"Little Miss" finished and listed on eBay...

I just wanted to post a picture of the finished product, to show the sides of the canvas and let you know that a few minutes ago my "Why So Sad" painting has been sold - so I am very much over the moon and it has made my day.

Ah well, I suppose I should make a start on my next little miss, but first I have to wait for the shops to open, on Tuesday, in order to buy more materials (I am totally out of canvases) - cheers all, best wishes Val xo

Happy Easter to All!

Hello everyone - I hope you are all having a very happy and safe Easter.

I have been painting this afternoon and this little miss is what I have come up with - there is a lot of texture on the painting (I can't get away from texture, just love it) and now I am really stuck for a title for this painting. I was thinking "Lil Gardener" or "Little Miss" but I am not sure if either one of these is any good. Does anyone have a fitting title? I would love to hear it if you do.

I still need to complete the edges of the canvas, varnish and add a hanging hook - once that is done, in a few days I suppose, I will be listing this painting on eBay and will provide a link.

Also, I was thinking of having a little "give away" competition very soon, but I think I need to get a few more followers before I do that.

Cheers all, wishing you happy painting, Val

Goodmorning to all - I am sitting at my lap top this morning with a nice hot coffee and just browsing through all the lovely new work which has been uploaded.

I have taken a few photos of my new painting in natrual ligh and have decided to post them as the previous photos (taken at night time with a flash) have actually bleached the colour of the paitning. (Hope she looks better in the morning light than I do lol)

Cheers Val

"Why So Sad" 25cm x 30cm SOLD

(The colours are no so good on this scan - everything is shades of pink and white)

(the created picture frame on the canvas)

Good evening everyone - well here is another little painting I have just finished (still need to varnish though) and this one took a while because I had to wait for the edges to dry for ages - I have actually given this canvas its very own frame (golden in colour) so it looks complete - mostly acrylic paints used on this one - but I have made the little cutie too sad, don't know how that happened, maybe next time I should sketch her out before adding features lol.

Anyway, hope you like this little miss - I will be listing her on eBay in a few days and I will provide a link once its done.

Today I baby-sat my two kiddies and two of their friends who are having a sleepover for a few nights - they have been very good, surprisingly - I suppose you might be wondering when did I have the time to paint with so many kids in the house. Well, after I took them to the shops and they all got a pressie and milkshakes and doughnuts, I took them to the park and let them run around for an hour. When they came home, they were pooped and watched movies all afternoon while I sat at the kitchen bench painting - I don't know how happy my hubby will be with all the paint splatters on the kitchen bench (note to myself: must clean up good).

Well, I will sign off now and chat with you all soon - I love getting up in the mornings and seeing all the new paintings posted - so much creativity on this Blogger. Cheers all, Val

I am seeing dots -literally...(SOLD)

This little painting on canvas 25cm x 30cm x 4cm edges was a labour of love over the last few days - I kept returning to it whenever I had a moment just to continue with the decoration on her hair - the dots were tedious, but the effect is great I think...

The background is "impasto" for greater texture which wraps around the canvas and looks a bit like "rock" surface...

And I have signed my name as part of her necklace...

I will be listing this painting on eBay in a few days, once she is varnished and a hanging hook is attached to the back of the frame.

Val :)

"Cutie Mermaid" 30cm x 40cm

Hello all, I know I said I will be away for a little while while the school holidays are on, but this morning my kids voted to paint - so I have them set up on the kitchen table, paints everywhere, my little artists, and I have kept them company painting this cutie while they have been creating their own artwork - they are still going, and having lots of fun, which is a good think of course.

Anyway, I hope you like this little mermaid, she has a background which has been made with craft paper cut out into sea shapes (the kids helped with those)! Cheers Val xx

"Accessorise" 20cm x 25cm

Antother little cutie I just finished painting - SOLD

I will take a bit of a break now from painting as I have neglected my family today - now that it is school holidays, I will be spending time with my kiddies, taking them to activities and lots of movies, so I will see you all in a few weeks. Have a safe holidays to all the kiddies in Australia - to the rest of the world, enjoy you painting and be safe, cheers Val xx

"Dream Garden" - she is finished...

...or, at least I think she is finished - who knows, I may decide to make a few changes before I varnish the painting.

Mixed media painting 30cm x 40cm - I painted this painting all yesterday and well into the night - probably the longest time it has ever taken me to finish a painting.
What do you think...cheers all, Val
